Second, the film opens on Oct. 27 of this year, which is one week after Lionsgate releases Tyler Perry's Boo 2! I have often called Lionsgate "The House That Jigsaw Built," and it was the Saw franchise that helped put Lionsgate on the map along with early hot-button/hot-potato acquisitions Dogma and Farenheight 9/11. From 2005 to 2014, Perry released 15 movies (along with the underappreciated Peeples and the Oscar-winning Precious under the "Tyler Perry Presents" banner) courtesy of Lionsgate. Here's the rub: During the peak era of Saw popularity and Tyler Perry's biggest wins, Lionsgate wasn't exactly knocking out the competition with their other movies. I don't know where Lionsgate's head was at when they decided to bring back Saw or get back into the Tyler Perry business.
