Timber mart cheer for farmers

Patna: Bihar plans to set up first-of-its-kind mart in the country using which farmers can market timber they have at their disposal. The government will first provide Rs 35 as encouragement money for each plant the farmers planted on their land. 2015-16 and 2016-17, 95.17 lakh and 94.63 lakh trees were planted respectively on the fields of Bihar farmers under the agro-forestry project. "The farmers will not need to bring the timber to the market. Rather, they will just finalise the deal with prospective customers at mutually acceptable rates and then the buyer will visit the farmer's field to get the trees cut for timber," Shukla said.
