After conducting hearings for more than 200 days, the PCoI probing Easter Sunday attacks has now issued its report, albeit unavailable to the public domain yet. What makes it more tragic is the fact that the authorities acknowledged before the PCoI on the Easter Sunday attacks that they had received forewarnings of the impending attacks, but failed regardless. The Easter Sunday attacks are noteworthy due to another reason – the amount and the nature of allegations levelled against topmost public officials and leading politicians over their alleged failure to prevent the attacks. In this case, it is equally important to identify and prevent the growth of groups spreading extremism, regardless of their religious beliefs. A special cabinet meeting is scheduled to be held today (10) to discuss the report before it being presented in Parliament.
