Warner Bros.Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc. dropped the first trailer this morning for the heavily-anticipated Crazy Rich Asians. The trailer, which seems to give away the whole movie, offers the idea that the film may play like (relatively speaking) My Big Fat Greek Wedding. No, I’m not saying that Crazy Rich Asians is going to earn $243 million in North America this August. And, because I think this is important, it also has the potential (presuming it wasn’t insanely expensive) to be a hit without crossing over beyond Asian moviegoers. If Crazy Rich Asians can make a solid profit by playing to 90% Asian moviegoers, that’s a win too.
