As people flee vulnerable coastal areas, and regions struck by river erosion and flooding, most are arriving at urban slums, particularly in Dhaka. What is the present situation of the urban poor in Bangladesh, with respect to fighting extreme poverty and public health hazard? According to the UNDP, the number of urban poor in all the urban centres is 9 million, about 5 million of them live in Dhaka alone. We want to try and give the people, living in the urban slums, a better and safe livelihood. Regarding participation in the World Urban Forum (WUF), it is an opportunity to get to know how other countries work in dealing with issues concerning the urban poor.
