Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday (December 29, 2025) called the killing of a Tripura student in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun a “horrific hate crime” and was a result of the ruling BJP “normalising” hate. In a post on X, Mr. Gandhi said: “Hate doesn’t appear overnight. We are proud to call you our fellow Indian brothers and sisters,” Mr. Gandhi added. He said Unakoti in Tripura, the place Angel Chakma came from, had some of the ancient Shiva temples. FIR was registered 12 days after the incident, Mr. Gogoi said, giving ample time for the main accused to flee.
