The pressures and counter-pressures between Tunisia and the IMF looks like a latter day version of this shadow play. Successive Tunisian prime ministers go through the same motion of presenting reforms they claim their government will undertake in order to halt the steady decline of the economy. Tunisian officials wanted to let the IMF top brass hear what they thought everybody wanted to hear. The decision of Hacivat (sorry the IMF) will be political, as it often is and not just with Tunisia. The IMF and foreign powers will probably act by default in the absence of responsible politicians in Tunis.
