Turkish MP tells Çavuşoğlu: Your government’s attempts to mediate in Libya failed

Ünal Çeviköz, a member of Turkey’s parliament, has criticized Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his government’s foreign policy, especially its involvement in Libya and Syria. “It was a mistake for Turkey to take sides with the forces in Libya for ideological reasons,” Çeviköz told Çavuşoğlu during a parliamentary hearing. “Previous agreements were not ratified in the House of Representatives, what steps are being taken to make these documents valid?,” he asked rhetorically. Furthermore, he questioned the latest gas exploration deal signed on 3 October with the Libyan Government of National Unity, citing “unstable environment” in Libya. “We support Turkey’s rights and interests without any hesitation, but given the disparity in Libya, the agreements must become legal, free of ideological approaches and without taking sides,” said the Turkish MP.
