Twenty dead, 24 injured in factory fire outside Cairo

Obour City’s industrial zone witnessed a tragic fire on Thursday that broke out in a clothing factory, killing 20 workers and wounding 24 others. The fire lasted for three hours, with multiple fire trucks and 15 ambulances from Cairo, Qaliubiya and Sharqiya governorates rushing to the scene to help. The inspection revealed that the factory is located on an area of 1500 square meters, consists of four floors, is owned by Abu al-Saud Fahmy, and produces ready-made clothes. The initial inspection revealed that the cause of the fire was an explosion of chemical gases in the factory’s store. Obour City Authority head Ahmed Omran said that the factory does not fall under the authority, but rather the industrial zone and the Industrial Development Authority, which is responsible for licensing and inspecting factories.
