The retaining wall built by the government to prevent sea erosion at Uchila was washed away last night in high tide owing to cyclone Ockhi near Mangaluru. more-inTwo houses were completely washed away, eight partially damaged and many coconut palms were uprooted as high tide hit the coast in Ullal-Talapady area near Mangaluru on Saturday night owing to Cyclone Ockhi. Dakshina Kannada district administration on Sunday distributed cheques for ₹ 1 lakh each as compensation to the owners of the two houses washed away near Ullal. He asked people not to gather on the coast and beaches to see high tide. The retaining wall built by a private resort at Ullal was also washed away in high tide the same night.
