The incident occurred on the embankment adjoining the Upazila's Lemshikhali Darbar Sharif around 4am on Friday, said Kutubdia Police OC Didarul Ferdous. The two were 'known pirates' in the area, the police said. According to the OC, a police team was dispatched to the area on information of a gunfight between two rivals groups of pirates over territorial control. "The pirates fled the scene when the law enforcers arrived. Police recovered a gun, two cartridges and 10 bullet shells from the scene.
