President Donald Trump speaks in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on Wednesday in Washington. A wave of countries have closed their airspace to the aircraft over the past three days following the crash Sunday of an Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX 8 shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa that killed all 157 on board. In late October a 737 MAX 8 operated by Lion Air plunged into the sea off Indonesia after takeoff, killing 189. The pilots unions for the largest airline in the world, American, as well as United Airlines and Southwest had stated their confidence in the safety of the plane.
