Britain's competition watchdog said on Friday it has opened an investigation into Facebook's use of advertiser data as the EU announced a similar probe. The Competition and Markets Authority said in a statement that it is looking into whether Facebook "has gained an unfair advantage over competitors in providing services for online classified ads and online dating, through how it gathers and uses certain data". Facebook has been facing increasing privacy-related backlash. In April, one of Germany's stricter data regulators sought an administrative order to block the social networking site from from collecting user data from its WhatsApp unit.
