However, gross domestic product (GDP) - a measure of the size of the economy - still remains 3.1% below its pre-pandemic levels in February 2020, according to the Office for National Statistics. GDP grew as pubs and restaurants were finally allowed to welcome back customers for inside dining, having previous reopened for outdoor service only in April. Jonathan Athow, deputy national statistician for economic statistics at the ONS, said: "The economy grew for the fourth consecutive month, albeit at a slower pace than seen recently, but remains around 3% below its pre-pandemic peak.
