In Muzzafarnagar, Union minister and local BJP MP Sanjeev Balyan's cousin, Sateyndra Balyan, got just four votes, while ruling party-backed Veerpal Nirwal won after bagging 30 votes. Mamta Kishore won 12 votes, while the BJP-backed Babli Devi got seven votes. “I was hopeful of getting more votes, but unfortunately could not win the confidence of other Zila Panchayat members. The BJP never indulges in pressure politics, and this is why the opposition-backed candidate could win the Baghpat seat. As many as nine zila Panchayat members abstained from voting, while the remaining were forced to vote in favour of Nirwal.
