US oil company ExxonMobil has sued to block a vote on a climate motion brought by a green activist, a move that will be closely watched by fossil fuel companies around the world. The company filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Texas on Sunday, arguing that the proposal violates SEC investor solicitation rules. Last year, ExxonMobil announced that it plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its operations to zero by 2050.
