Union Budget 2026: Allocations to major central schemes


In the Union Budget 2026 tabled today (February 1, 2026), the Central schemes make up around 43.4% of the total expenditure through the budget which stood at ₹53,47,314.81 crore, a 5.56% increase over the budget estimates presented in the last budget (and a 7.7% increase over the revised estimates presented today). These central schemes are further classified into ‘Centrally Sponsored Schemes’ and ‘Central Sector Schemes’. Out of the major central schemes, the scheme that were allocated the most, as a share of the total expenditure, was the central sector scheme Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana at ₹2.27 lakh crore which is around 4.25% of the total expenditure of the budget. Other schemes that followed were allocations to the National Highway Authority of India (3.5%), Road Works (2.28%), Urea Subsidy (2.18%), and the VB-G RAM G (1.8%).
