‘Usman’ death toll hits 61By The Manila Timeshome/Second Headline/‘Usman’ death toll hits 61The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is validating reports that landslides and flashfloods spawned by Tropical Depression Usman left 61 people dead in regions 5 and 8. “The NDRRMC Operation Centers and Regional DRRM Operation Centers of the affected regions are still on alert status and are continously monitoring ongoing response efforts in the affected areas,” Jalad said. Meanwhile, the tropical depression damaged rice and corn crops worth P195.36 million, according to the Department of Agriculture. The DA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operation Center said 6,318 farmers were affected in the provinces of Quezon, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, and Samar. The DA said Usman also damaged P16.9 million worth of fruit trees, vegetables and root crops.
