Walgreens Boots Alliance will unveil a new format in pilot stores over the coming months that will bring together retail, healthcare and other services currently offered separately in some stores. Walgreens rival CVS Health is buying Aetna, the nation’s third largest health insurer, and there’s speculation online retail giant Amazon will soon begin offering more healthcare services. In the next three years, Walgreens will spend another $500 million on systems , Gourlay said. “We are starting to get good data from our stores and we are making progress towards what we need,” Gourlay said. In the coming weeks and months, Walgreens will also be closing about 600 stores.
