A former RAF corporal who is celebrating his 100th birthday in lockdown today has been described as a 'legend' by the local athletics club that he first joined 85 years ago. A century later, he is celebrating the magnificent milestone with his wife, 91-year-old Beryl. Beryl was ladies' captain at Wallasey Athletics Club in late 1940s and early 1950s. He was also president of the Northern Cross Country Association and president of Wallasey Athletics Club three times, for whom he has also been treasurer and secretary. He added: "I've just been talking to our club chairman who tells me that I'm a legend in the club now."
