Watchdog questions whether Boris Johnson should rule on ministers' rules after Priti Patel row

It comes after Boris Johnson was accused of double standards after telling Ministers there was "no place for bullying" in the wake of a damning report into the behaviour of Home Secretary Priti Patel. The PM refused to sack Ms Patel, despite an inquiry concluding she had broken the Ministerial Code following claims of bullying. "The danger is that issues of public concern are left unresolved because an investigation hasn't been triggered," he said. He said: "The independent elements that exist in the Commons system and have been introduced into the Lords system now don't apply to the ministerial code. "I don't rule out that there may be other ways to deal with breaches of the ministerial code other than resignation."
