On Wednesday I was honoured to launch my proposed Desecration of War Memorial Prevention Scotland Members Bill for consultation in the Scottish Parliament. While that title might be a mouthful, at its heart is legislation designed to prevent the disgraceful attacks on war memorials that have been on the rise over the last decade. Currently, this puts the desecration of war memorials in the same camp as vandalising a post box or a lamppost. On top of this, Scotland’s war memorials are an important, emotive part of our country’s heritage that must be treasured.
