Western Waikato areas on thunderstorm watchJESSE-JOHN NAUDE/FAIRFAX NZThunderstorms, wind gusts that break the speed limit and even a small tornado could be on the way for the wider Waikato. MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui and Taranaki. If there are tornados, they should only affect very small areas, MetService said. Residents of Western areas which might experience the wayward weather should keep an eye on the sky and monitor weather forecasts in case the watch is upgraded to a warning.
