Last year, it was decided that Max Alleyne, 18, would remain in the under-18s to get some regular football under his belt after joining from Southampton's academy in 2021. Alleyne was part of the squad that beat Red Star last week, with five academy graduates ending the game on the pitch, and Alleyne an unused substitute. Those players, this year it was Nico [O'Reilly], Matty Whittingham, Max Alleyne and Tom Galvez. Max and Tom were new to the club last season so we felt they needed an extra year to settle in. After making the step up to the under-21 squad this term, new coach Brian Barry-Murphy is looking forward to testing Alleyne and fellow centre-back Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.
