While trick-or-treating is thought of as American, the practice was actually born in Scotland and Ireland. The practice eventually made its way across the Atlantic in the early 20th century with the first record of it in 1911 in Ontario, Canada. The term trick-or-treating eventually began being used and guising slowly faded from use in North America.
