Winter storm hits D.C., Philadelphia and New York while poised to slam Boston

It’s likely that between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., parts of eastern Massachusetts will pick up about six inches of snow, possibly more. There’s also the possibility of thundersnow during this period and on through the predawn hours, according to the National Weather Service. The Weather Service has increased its projected snowfall totals to at least a foot in Boston, with the outside chance of 15 inches. It’s not out of the question that some places will receive as much as 20 inches of snow from this moisture-laden system. Boston received just 16 inches of snow last winter, which means that after this event, the city won’t have far to go to beat that total.
