Writ challenges EC decision on 25 Jamaat leaders’ candidacies

Currently the Jamaat leaders are contesting the election using their political ally, BNP’s, sheaf of paddy symbol; and some are contesting as independent candidates. As many as 22 Jamaat leaders are contesting the December 30 election using BNP’s sheaf of paddy, while three are running as independent candidates. The Election Commission finally issued a gazette notification on October 29 this year confirming the cancellation of the party's registration. Earlier, four people, including Chandpuri, filed a petition with the Election Commission challenging the legality of the Jamaat leaders' nominations.
