On Oct. 4, 2018, the Washington Post published a story titled, "What happened to the NFL's anthem controversy? Players focus protest elsewhere." However, the act of kneeling over the anthem still continues to happen, and to cause backlash, at youth levels of sports. The football coach at Lansing (Mich.) Catholic backed off plans to discipline players who kneel during the anthem, apparently at the behest of the local bishop. But kneeling during the anthem to protest injustice in America, despite its use declining in the NFL, remains as galvanizing and controversial as over.
