Zubiri urges DPWH to make school buildings earthquake-proof 0 SHARES Share it! Share TweetBy Mario CasayuranSenate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Monday to revise their engineering designs for public buildings, particularly school houses, in earthquake-prone areas, as their designs cannot withstand earthquakes. Aside from ash fall, Taal volcano’s eruption also triggered earthquakes that destroyed roads and infrastructure in nearby areas. “Typically, these classrooms and school buildings will have concrete flooring and walls, and galvanized roofing, and if the school building is two-storey or multi-storey, even the flooring for the upper floors are concrete,” Zubiri said. These are the Southern, Central and Western Mindanao provinces.
