Nearly 36,000 workers are expected to stay off duty on Monday, affecting 3,800 red buses.The BEST workers are agitating for on-time salaries and BMC help to bail out the loss-making transport undertaking. BEST had pledged to run 212 extra buses, a promise likely to remain on paper. The strike is likely to overburden trains, which is where the majority of BEST's 30 lakh daily commuters are expected to shift. Interestingly, BEST is celebrating BEST Din (BEST Day) on Monday by inviting people to an exhibition on the transport wing's history at Ravindra Natya Mandir. The unions are demanding that BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta should consider BEST workers on a par with civic employees.
