Die Hard has been ranked a Christmas film in a new Channel 4 poll, as the broadcaster has unveiled a snapshot of the nation’s viewing habits for 2025. In a roundup of the nation’s festive viewing habits, the broadcaster revealed that the nation started the festive season early, with 87 million minutes of Christmas content streamed in November alone, including films such as Home Alone, Father Christmas and Terry Pratchett’s The Abominable Snow Baby. Meanwhile, Die Hard, which was also available to watch on Channel 4’s streaming service, was officially ranked a Christmas film. Elsewhere, the region celebrating the festive season the earliest was London, where 16 million minutes of Channel 4’s Christmas content were streamed in November. Channel 4’s streaming success this year has been powered by a slate of new titles including Virgin Island, which became the biggest launch for young audiences in over 20 years.

It is no exaggeration to say that for over half a millennium the Caribbean has been a stage for imperial incursions. One might ask: Why are governments, like Trinidad and Tobago, enabling US imperial terror in the region? Caribbean states are historically structured to be neoliberal, pro-imperial, and anti-democratic – while political elites are beholden to enacting external interests. However, the Caribbean route is not among the primary conduits for major volumes of cocaine and methamphetamines into the US. The T&T government’s deliberate facilitation of US imperial aggression in the region mirrors the position of several African states.

Thursday last week featured performances from Trinity, Sacred Heart and Rupert House primary schools and Nettlebed Community School. A “Spirit of Christmas” award was presented on both nights to the school whose performance best encapsulated the festive season. Mayor Tom Buckley, who watched the performance on Wednesday night, presented the award to Kidmore End Primary School. He said: “They came out with lots of energy and life and were full of Christmas spirit. On night two, Henley town councillor Kellie Hinton presented the spirit award to Sacred Heart Primary School, which performed Calypso Carol and Feliz Navidad, accompanied by several Year 5 and 6 pupils on ukulele.
