Plans have been unveiled to transform a former steelworks into one of the UK’s largest sustainable AI data centres, with the developer saying it will create thousands of jobs and billions of pounds of inward investment. The proposals would see a data centre and battery energy storage centre built on the site of the former Ravenscraig steelworks in Motherwell, which closed in 1992. Once it is up and running, Apatura said the £3.9 billion centre will support 2,399 long-term jobs and contribute an additional 0.4 per cent to Scotland’s annual GDP. The former British Steel works at Ravenscraig in Motherwell being demolished by a controlled explosion in 1992. Apature said constrained energy payments cost £1 billion last year and are forecast to rise to £3 billion by 2030.

The police in Britain have used a counterterrorism law to arrest three people over a pro-Palestinian group’s recent incursion at a British military base in a rare use of such powers against acts of vandalism. This week, the British government announced an intention to ban the group, called Palestine Action. The powers are commonly used against people suspected of planning jihadist or far-right attacks to give investigators more time to question them. The four arrested are being held during the investigation into the break-in by Palestine Action at Brize Norton, Britain’s largest Royal Air Force base, in the early hours of June 20. The group posted footage online showing two activists moving around the base on electric scooters before using red paint to damage two military planes.

(Alliance News) - The UK and France are expected to announce a one in, one out migrant returns deal to crack down on English Channel crossings, it has been reported. The deal could see migrants who arrive in the UK by crossing the English Channel in small boats returned to France, while the UK would accept those with legitimate claims to join family already in the country. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has been leading the talks, the paper added, who is credited with strengthening relationships with French counterparts. Under the new returns deal, a joint processing system between the UK and France would be set up to identify migrants who have a valid claim for family reunification in the UK, the Times reported. For each person accepted to come to the UK, a migrant would be returned to France and relocated across the country away from its northern coastline where crossings take place.

A spokesperson for CNN told The Times that the cable news network had responded to Trump's lawyer in a similar fashion. On Thursday, Trump teased a 'rumor' that the New York Times and CNN would fire the reporters in question. 'So this is a reporter who has been unfortunately used by people who dislike Donald Trump in this government to push fake and false narratives,' Leavitt alleged. Trump's post about CNN firing Bertrand appeared to be wishful thinking, as CNN issued a statement standing by Bertrand and her reporting. But the president continued posting criticism of both CNN and the New York Times, describing them on Thursday morning as 'bad people with evil intentions.'

The Times has revealed the Sunday Times Hundred 2025 – a ranking of Britain’s fastest-growing private companies with revenues of less than £250m. The prestigious table was topped this year by Glasgow-based activewear brand DFYNE, which was founded just four years ago by CEO Oscar Ryndziewicz. DFYNE beat a number of other notable companies to top spot, including London-based retailer Healf, which was 2nd on the list with 434% growth. Lucie MacLeod’s Hair Syrup ranked 13th on the list after her company’s sales rocketed following a now-viral Dragons’ Den appearance. “To be recognised again by The Sunday Times is a huge honour and a reflection of our incredible team and the strength of our direct-to-consumer model.
