The Royal Mail said it has produced 12 stamps which pay tribute to the supersonic aircraft’s “innovation, elegance and engineering excellence”. The nose cones of three Concorde planes exhibited in the UK will be moved simultaneously at 11.40am on Wednesday to mark the moment the first commercial Concorde flights departed on January 21 1976. The main set of eight Concorde stamps features photography of British Airways’ Concordes throughout their history, including the first and last commercial flights. Concorde was one the height of luxury for the famous and the well-heeled (Stefan Rousseau/PA)Last week, the Royal Mint launched a new 50p coin celebrating Concorde. But the aircraft was retired from service in October 2003, with British Airways and Air France blaming a downturn in passenger numbers and rising maintenance costs.

Laws to ban hate groups and establish a national gun buyback scheme have passed the Senate after the Albanese government struck separate deals with the Liberals and Greens to legislate its response to the Bondi beach massacre. The two bills were rushed through on Tuesday night at the end of a special two-day sitting to deal with the political fallout to the 14 December shooting. Albanese says the laws were not as strong as the government initially put forward, but said the laws were 'no doubt' a good thing

MARSEILLE VS. LIVERPOOL| Wednesday, January 21st |Champions League, League Phase | Stade de Marseille8PM BST/3PM ESTI have terrible news for people who don’t pay attention to French football beyond being able to guess who wins the league any given year: Marseille are third in Ligue 1, but they’ve scored 41 goals, which is one more than the mighty, giant, star-studded PSG machine. This is not ideal for a Liverpool side who love to give an opponent a goal when they can. Of course, Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi himself has experience playing Liverpool, and will relish the challenge in Europe’s premier competition. Of course, Liverpool have not drawn in any of their last 32 Champions League Group Stage/League Stage matches, and have won eight of their last 10 away matches. Maybe this will be the match where Liverpool once again remember who they are.

According to the ONS, shoplifting crime figures in England and Wales have risen to a fresh 20-year high. Shoppers on secondhand marketplaces such as Vinted, eBay and Facebook Marketplace are being warned they may be inadvertently purchasing shoplifted goods. ‘Shoplifting to order’ is essentially when thieves are given a ‘shopping list’ of the exact items that they should steal from a certain shop or supermarket. “If you are purchasing items on Facebook Marketplace, Vinted or eBay, be mindful if the product is brand new but sold at a much lower value, and if the seller seems to sell a lot of high value items a similar way. Andrew adds: “In smaller shops without security, shop keepers may be forced to confront the thief, which poses a danger to themselves and their staff.

The one tour Eddie Van Halen called the most fun: “The best times of my life”Every record that Eddie Van Halen ever made had to come from a place of fun for him. Which is strange, considering how many times Eddie had bouts of stage fright every single time he went onstage. But Eddie wasn’t looking to be a guitar god when he first started making waves. I had some of the best times of my life with him on our 1984 European tour.”But what Malcolm did with his guitar was a completely different vocabulary to what Eddie had done. Even if Eddie was miles better from a technical perspective, the magic that he saw in AC/DC went beyond any kind of blistering lead playing.

A startled British government on Tuesday defended its decision to hand sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, after President Trump attacked the plan, which his administration previously supported. Islanders who were displaced to make way for the U.S. base on Diego Garcia say they weren’t consulted and worry the deal will make it harder for them to go home. Badenoch said in an X post that Trump is right and that Starmer’s “plan to give away the Chagos Islands is a terrible policy that weakens UK security and hands away our sovereign territory. The Chagos Islands have been under British control since 1814, when they were ceded by France. The U.K.-Mauritius deal calls for a resettlement fund to be created for displaced islanders to help them move back to the islands — apart from Diego Garcia.

Their hopes were given a boost with the return of Mohamed Salah to training after a disappointing end to the Africa Cup of Nations for the superstar forward, with Egypt making it to the semi-final stage only to lose to final winners Senegal and then to Nigeria in the third-place playoff. What Salah’s role for Liverpool will be, though, is a fair question given his falling out with manager Arne Slot before his international duty departure over the holiday period, but with Liverpool currently looking very thin in attack there’s plenty of reason to think Salah will be needed. If this title-defending Liverpool side are to manage more than treading water following last summer’s £450M transfer splurge, it’s hard to imagine it happening without Salah playing a key role. However, Salah’s involvement on Wednesday won’t be the only question Slot has to answer. That’s because while Salah has returned to training, centre half Ibrahima Konaté has left the club due to family reasons and widespread reports today suggest it is not yet known if he will join his teammates for Wednesday and take part in the match against Ligue 1’s third-place side.
