Most popular news apps in the UK: Times and Daily Mail lead on engagement
The top apps for engagement retention: The Times and The Sunday Times, Daily Mail and Mail+The Daily Mail and The Times have the most engaged app users of any newsbrand in the UK, according to data from Ipsos iris. Daily Mail’s newspaper editions app, Mail+, recorded the most average minutes spent per person (758 minutes) followed by The Times and Sunday Times (539 minutes). The Times and The Sunday Times app saw a redesign and relaunch in April 2025. Ranking third in average minutes spent per person was the Daily Mail (formerly Mail Online) news app at 392 minutes. This was followed by GB News (up 94% year on year to 10 million minutes) and The New York Times Crossword, up 68% to 299.4 million minutes.

The book will be published by Koehler Books and will highlight U.K. native Roger Faulkner’s life in sport. Topics range from the European tennis tour, the creation of the Detroit Express with Jimmy Hill, and his spearheading of the World Cup matches played at the Silverdome in 1994. Interactions with Henry Kissinger, Trevor Francis, Jimmy Hill, Pele and Robin Williams scratch the surface of some of the stories written. It will be available from Amazon in the U.S. and the U.K., Waterstones, Barnes and Noble, and other online retailers.

Labour scraps plans for compulsory digital ID
A source said there would be “mandatory digital checks” for a right to work, as the current paper-based system was more open to abuse, but that did not necessarily mean bringing in a compulsory digital ID card. A government source told The Times that the compulsory element “was stopping conversation about what digital IDs could be used for generally”. Amazon announces plan to close its first centre in UK
The company announced a consultation on a proposal to close the site in Milton Keynes, which was the first Amazon centre to open in 1998. Amazon said the 590 employees affected by the announcement will be offered a transfer to its new site in Northampton or to other centres. An Amazon spokesman said: “We’re always evaluating our network to make sure it fits our business needs and to improve the experience for our employees and customers. The £500 million Northampton building is scheduled to open in May. A large Amazon sortation centre, which forms a separate part of its logistics business, is also based in Milton Keynes and is unaffected by the proposals.
