I’m constantly reminded of reasons I’m grateful to be sober — and they always seem to show up in the least expected places. There was a stretch of time, before I got sober, when I desperately wanted to get pregnant — but we weren’t. “We’ve been trying,” I’d say, glass in hand, like I was toasting to my own disappointment. And the next day, I’d scroll through texts, check social media, and try to piece together what I’d said — and to whom. I am sober and responsible for my actions because I finally care about my own name enough to protect it.

LOADING ERROR LOADINGCNN data chief Harry Enten said on Sunday that President Donald Trump is already making history as he approaches 100 days in office. At the 100-day mark of Trump’s first term in office, his approval rating was 44%. But now, nearly 100 days into Trump’s second presidency, a new CNN poll finds his approval rating is even lower at 41%. On the economy, for example, his approval rating is 39%. “I mean, the bottom line here, it’s just very simply, the numbers for Donald Trump are awful, awful, awful,” Enten said.

WASHINGTON — However scared you might be for our democracy, you are not scared enough. The president of the United States, from the moment he regained the office, has been step-by-step following the autocrat’s playbook. There’s an energy “emergency” that allows Trump to trample environmental laws to bring about an infinite amount of oil-drilling. Support HuffPost Already contributed? If we had done that, I think there would be more of a public outcry at these actions taken by the current administration to destroy public health research in this country. Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementPublic health research should benefit all Americans, and this requires that some research focus specifically on minority populations. Being inclusive is a good thing — it means everyone in the U.S. is regarded as important in public health research. I also hope each person reading this will do something to help get public health research back on track in this country.

I am old, sole caregiver to my husband of 48 years, and don’t have a lot of money to send to even the best of progressive causes. I would hit the streets, bunions be damned, but he cannot safely be left alone for hours at a time. And while I support the protestors, I don’t think that is hitting them where it hurts — yet. I try to support local business owners and to avoid big companies that have forced them out of business (looking at you, WalMart). Hitting them in their wallets should work as well on the little guys as it seems to be working on Musk.
