Much of the current discussion around AI centers on the application of what are known as artificial neural networks to machine learning. Machine learning refers to the use of algorithms to find patterns in large data sets in order to make statistical predictions. (Machine learning and artificial neural networks are only two tools under the general umbrella of AI.) In standard machine learning, human beings label different inputs to teach the machine how to organize data and weigh its importance in determining the final output. Last year, Google pitched a machine learning chatbot named Genesis to the New York Times, the Washington Post, and NewsCorp.

Biden Pressures Israel On Gaza Aid Amid Rising Conflict US threatens military support cut if humanitarian access to Gaza does not improveUS-Israel relations have come to the forefront as the conflict in Gaza intensifies, triggering actions from the Biden administration aimed at addressing the humanitarian aid situation. Recently, the pressure has escalated: the United States issued strict warnings to Israel about its humanitarian aid policies or face potential cutbacks on military assistance. The number of U.S. service members and veterans who radicalize make up a tiny fraction of a percentage point of the millions and millions who have honorably served their countryTakeaways from The Associated Press' reporting on extremism in the militaryAn Associated Press investigation examined extremism among members of the U.S. military and veterans. Extremist plots involving people with military backgrounds were more likely to involve weapons training or firearms than those plots that didn't include someone with a military background, according to an AP analysis of the data. However, the participation of active-duty military and veterans gave extremist plots more potential for mass injury or death, according to the data. The Pentagon did develop at least one way to detect extremist incidents across military branches and among civilian defense contractors. ___The Associated Press receives support from several private foundations to enhance its explanatory coverage of elections and democracy.
