Vietnamese designs shine at Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 pageant
HÀ NỘI Vietnamese fashion designer Nguyễn Minh Tuấn has impressed international fashionistas by contributing to the victory of Miss Curaçao, Andreina Pereira, at the Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 pageant. Pereira made history for the island nation at the Miss Supranational pageant by becoming the first-ever winner of the Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 title. Prior to winning the Miss Supranational Caribbean 2023 title, Pereira was also named the second runner-up in the Miss Universe Curaçao 2022 pageant. In February, Pereira was crowned Miss Supranational Curaçao 2023, paving the way for her to compete in the Miss Supranational Caribbean pageant. The organisers of the Miss Supranational Curaçao pageant praised the high-end craftsmanship and attention to detail in Tuấn’s designs.

Vietsovpetro proposes developing new oil blocks
HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam-Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro has recently sent a proposal to the Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) regarding the expansion of its operating area. Specifically, Vietsovpetro proposed Petrovietnam accelerate development plans for Blocks 09-2/09, 16-1/15, and 09-2/10, and ask the relevant authorities to approve Vietsovpetro's involvement in potential projects such as Blocks 17 and 05-2/10, while adopting Vietsovpetro's investment plans for new blocks. Vietsovpetro General Director Vũ Mai Khanh said Vietsovpetro was encountering challenges in mobilising floating systems and drilling rigs due to the scarcity and high rental costs, which were hindering its expansion plans and activities. It also aimed to expand cooperation and leverage external factors to develop and expand other services, he said. He also urged Vietsovpetro to partner with Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) to develop a plan for flexible and efficient resource sharing.

Vietnamese, Lao young officers promote exchanges

Cambodia to hold Senate election on February 25, 2024

EuroCham proposes all EU members be in Vietnam visa exemption list
The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham Vietnam) recently submitted a letter to Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, proposing all 27 EU member countries to be included in Vietnam’s visitor visa exemption list. Currently, the visitor visa exemption list only extends to seven EU member countries including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. “This expansion will bring in a large number of travelers from the EU market, which has a population of over 500 million people. VN-Index likely to head toward 1,180-1,200 points this week
HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese stock market gained for the second week in a row, with the VN-Index hitting the highest so far this year. On the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the benchmark closed last week at 1,168.4 points, while the HNX-Index on the Hà Nội Stock Exchange (HNX) was at 230.19 points. The global stock market moved positively after the data, and the dollar index dropped below 100 points, helping ease the pressure on the domestic exchange rate. Domestically, the positive news lured the previously hesitant cash flows to join the market, easily pushing the VN-Index over 1,150 points. The positive sentiment in the stock market may maintain this week and the VN-Index is likely to head toward the strong resistance zone of 1,180-1,200 points, the securities firm added.

HCM City police to verify if landlords register foreign tenants
HCM CITY — HCM City Police are set to inspect all accommodation rented to foreigners to ensure their landlords comply with regulations related to reporting foreign residents. The month-long inspection from August 1 follows a spate of crimes committed in the city by foreigners. The police said failure to report foreigners staying in their premises by landlords poses the risk of crimes. The city is home to some 100,000 foreigners, the largest of any city or province in the country. Indonesia plans to reduce cattle imports from Australia

According to Suhanto, Indonesia is in the process of trade negotiations with Mexico on an agreement to import cattle to ensure supply for domestic demand. Suhanto said the import of cattle from both South Africa and Mexico will be implemented so that Indonesia will not completely rely on supply from Australia as Australian cattle prices tend to increase every year, affecting domestic prices. Data from Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that Australia is the largest exporter of cattle to Indonesia. In 2017, Australia's cattle imports to Indonesia reached 85,192 tonnes.
