Efforts made to revive inbound tourism
Vietnam’s tourism industry has gradually recovered since fully opening to international visitors on March 15 last year. The number of foreign tourists reached nearly 1.9 million in the first two months of the year, equal to a quarter of the target set for last year. Vietnam has won several world tourism titles, such as Asian travel destination for 4 consecutive years, top heritage destination, and top culinary destination, which have helped spread its image among international friends. China’s decision to add Vietnam to the list of countries, to which China’s group tours can be conducted, starting from March 15, is expected to be a major boost for the tourism industry. The efforts of Vietnam’s tourism industry to reopen, together with the friendliness and hospitality of Vietnamese people, are advantages boosting its position in the eyes of international visitors./.

Vietnam Book, Reading Culture Day responded in Russia

(Photo: VNA)- A book festival was held in Moscow on May 1 in response to the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21), giving a chance for the Vietnamese community in Russia to meet, exchange books and promote the reading culture.Along with introducing various kinds and titles of books to readers to encourage their reading, the festival also offered an opportunity for visitors to experience calligraphy , folk games and traditional cuisine of Vietnam.A fund-raising event was also held to build schools for mountainous students at home.After presenting books to the festival organising board, Mai Nguyen Tuyet Hoa, First Secretary for Education at the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, said that she hopes a library will be set up for Vietnamese youngsters in the country soon.The Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day was first held in 2022 following the Prime Minister's Decision No.1862/QD-TTg.The day is expected to encourage and develop the reading movement among the community, contributing to building a learning society. In addition, it aims to honour readers, authors, publishers, printers and libraries that make efforts to preserve, collect and promote books./.

Earlier, Xoan singing was inscribed on the Urgent Safeguarding List in 2011 due to declining appreciation of this tradition, notably among young people. Xoan singing is also practiced at 64 district-level clubs and 42 commune-level clubs with thousands of participants. She won the Belgian International 2022, the Vietnam Open 2022 and Vietnam International Challenger 2023. Phát meanwhile took a silver from the Vietnam International Challenge last month.

Vietnam ranks third in exporting mango to RoK
Illustrative image (Photo: VNA)- Vietnam is the third largest mango supplier for the Republic of Korea (RoK) in the world, but the imports from Vietnam only account for 5.8% of the Asian country’s total, the Import - Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has reported.According to the department, there is an ample room for Vietnamese firms to promote their export of the fruit to the RoK in the coming time. It urged Vietnamese exporters to fully tap advantages created by the Vietnam - Korea FTA (VKFTA) to boost exports to the country.Citing data from the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), the department said that the RoK’s mango import from Vietnam in the first three months of 2023 reached 8,000 tonnes worth 36. 4 million USD, down 18% in volume and 19% in value over the same period last year.According to the Vietnam Trade Office in the RoK, in 2023, a number of factors will continue to affect Vietnam's exports to the country because the Korean economy faces huge inflationary pressure, and rising interest rates.In order to promote the export of Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural and aquatic products and processed foods, to the RoK, Vietnamese businesses should pay special attention to meeting Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standards (SPS) of the nation.Attention should be paid to strengthening exchanges and cooperation activities between domestic business associations and Korean counterparts, as well as with distribution corporations of the RoK such as Lotte Mart, E-Mart, Home Plus, and CJ Home Shoping, thus increasing sales opportunities in supermarkets and distribution channels in the RoK, the office said.It also recommended other measures, including supporting Vietnam ese enterprises to promote and sell their products at major Korean e-commerce sites such as Coupang and Gmarket, encouraging Vietnamese exporters to take part in prestigious trade fairs in the RoK, and organising field trips for RoK firms which are interested in setting up trade and investment cooperation with Vietnamese companies and business associations.In particular, Vietnam needs a stronger mechanism to attract Korean businesses to cooperate and invest in producing agricultural products for export to the RoK, it added./.

Vietnam confirms over 3,000 new COVID-19 cases on April 28

(Photo: VNA)Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam on April 28 reported 3,094 new COVID-19 cases – the highest recorded in a day in the past over six months, according to the Ministry of Health. Since the pandemic broke out in the country in early 2020, the country has reported over 11,557,969 cases. To date, the country has administered 266,207,930 doses of vaccines against COVID-19. As the number of COVID-19 infections in Vietnam has continuously increased recently, the Ministry of Health has kept asking localities to speed up vaccination for people in high-risk groups.

2024 AFC U17 Women's Asia Cup: Vietnam advance to next round

Though the Vietnamese team only needed a draw to advance, they controlled the game from the early minutes. The Uzbekistan’s net shook in the ninth minute after a decisive dribble and shot by striker Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu. In the 72nd minute, from a counter-attack situation, Vietnam increased the lead to 2-0 thanks to a goal from Hoai Trinh. In the final minutes, a goal from captain and defender Nguyen Thi Thuong secured a 3-0 victory for the team.

Indonesia moves to push de-dollarisation
