Over 4,000 people join Vietnam-Japan Cultural Exchange Festival in Da Nang

Int’l arrivals jump, Vietnam among most-searched destinations
According to the General Statistics Office, international arrivals to Vietnam reached 172,900, a month-on-month rise of over 70 percent. For the January-May period, Vietnam welcomed a total of 365,300 international arrivals, 4.5 times higher than the same period last year but 95 percent lower than the same period of 2019, when COVID-19 restrictions were not in place. Data from Google showed that there were rapid increases in the search volume for holidays in Vietnam, making the country one of the most-searched destinations since international tourism was reopened on March 15. Searches for airlines to Vietnam increased drastically, by 800 percent as of mid-April over the same period last year. Searches for hotels in Vietnam increased by 114 percent.

Vietnam Airlines launches direct route to India
Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, who came to India to attend the Special ASEAN - India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, performed the opening ceremony of this flight. According to Vietnam Airlines, its flights between Hanoi and New Delhi are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday every week, while those between Ho Chi Minh City and the Indian capital are operated on Thursdays and Saturdays. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, a strategic partnership in 2007 and a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, Vietnam and India have seen their two-way trade growing by an annual average of 20 percent. Workshop seeks to boost Lai Chau’s tea exports

(Photo: VNA)Minister Counsellor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN (Photo: dangcongsan.vn)– A Vietnam representative affirmed the country's commitment to promote the rights of the persons with disabilities (PwDs) while attending a meeting held in New York on June 14 - 16.Addressing the 15th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Minister Counsellor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, affirmed that the country has always attached importance to promoting and protecting the rights and interests of PwDs in the principles of equality and non-discrimination. It has also mainstreamed PwD-related issues in the national development framework.Vietnam has continuously strived to create a favourable environment for PwDs to not only enjoy benefits but also have opportunities to take part in the decision making and contribute to social development, she noted.According to the diplomat, the country’s ratification of the CRPD and the International Labour Organisation ( ILO ) Convention 159 on vocational rehabilitation and employments for PwDs is a demonstration of its commitment to ensure workers are not discriminated in the workplace.Under the national programme on PwDs for 2021 - 2030, millions of PwDs, including children, have received care at social protection establishments while all persons with special disabilities have been covered with health insurance. Besides, there are 20 educational and integration support centres, 107 special educational centres for disabled children, 256 training establishments for PwDs, and 400 PwD-owned businesses at present.In her remarks, Thoa underlined Vietnam’s pledge to cooperate with the international community to guarantee an equal, inclusive, and sustainable future for all that leaves no one behind.

First, economic and trade links have been increasing fast, which can been seen in Vietnam’s trade with India surging to almost 13 billion USD at present from about 200 million USD in 2000.The second is on security and politics with both sharing many similar viewpoints on international and regional issues, especially the East Sea issue and the Indo-Pacific vision, he said, elaborating that India supports ASEAN’s centrality, both sides attach great importance to law respect and law adherence, and they also wish to build a region of peace, stability, and development, as well as a free, open, and international law-based Indo-Pacific region.Third, most of the ASEAN countries and India advocate peace and justice when it comes to international issues. Vietnam to have at least three int’l-standard maritime economic centres: Ministry
Illustrative image (Photo: VNA)– The Ministry of Planning and Investment has sent a document to the Prime Minister asking for approval of a project to develop maritime clusters associated with building strong maritime economic centres until 2030, which sets a target of building from three to four centres leading Southeast Asia.The southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau and the southeast part of Ho Chi Minh City, and the Hai Phong – Quang Ninh region in the north are the two places proposed to host Vietnam ’s strong maritime economic centres.The ambitious project also aims to form maritime clusters in advantageous marine and coastal regions, striving to establish seven clusters by 2030.The economic growth rate of the key regions to develop maritime clusters associated with maritime economic centres is expected to be equal to at least 1.2 times that of the nation’s average.Seaports and logistics services will be prioritised in almost all maritime economic regions./.

Reform needed to support oil and gas industry: experts
The Bach Ho oil field (White Tiger oilfield) is a major oil field in the Cuu Long basin of the East Sea located offshore due east of the Mekong Delta. Over the last seven years, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) signed three new contracts only.Nguyen Quoc Thap, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Association, said that several laws related to the operation of the oil and gas industry, such as Law on Public Investment, Law on Investment and Law on Enterprise and Law on Management and Use of State Capital enacted after Petroleum Law in 1993 leading to an overlapping and duplication that needed to be handled soon. He noted that essential investigation of the oil and gas industry involved many risks. Therefore, it needs to conduct more specific regulations.Nguyen Quoc Thap said that oil prices fluctuated unpredictably and the draft law mentioned the increasing cost while failing to mention the decrease in oil prices. As a result, the law would affect oil and gas industry development.The Vietnam Oil and Gas Association has asked the Law Compiling Committee to conduct more specific regulations relating to other laws, such as the Law on Construction.Thap said the revised Law on Petroleum needed to regulate the rights and responsibilities of PetroVietnam in approving oil and gas projects.The National Assembly will discuss the draft revised Petroleum Law this week./.
