Lao Party extends congratulations to Vietnam on National Reunification Day

Illustrative image (Source: Dangcongsan.vn)– The Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party ( LPRP ) has cabled a message of congratulations to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30).In the message, the LPRP Central Committee praised the leadership of the CPV in the past struggle for national liberation, as well as in national construction and development.It also lauded achievements the Vietnamese people have recorded across spheres over the past time, especially its comprehensive outcomes in Doi Moi (Reform), bringing about political stability, continuous economic growth and better living standards.The committee highlighted Vietnam’s enhanced national defence and security and expanded external relations, as well as the improved prestige and position of the Vietnamese Party and State in the region and the world.“We firmly believe that under the clear-sighted, sound leadership of the CPV led by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnam will reap new, greater achievements in the implementation of the Resolution adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, and soon become a modern industrialised nation, meeting the target of wealthy people and a strong, democratic, equal and civilised country,” the committee said.Despite rapid, complex developments of the world situation and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the Parties, States and people of the two countries have developed continuously, bringing pragmatic interests to their people, it continued.The Lao side also thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their support for Laos’ revolutionary cause./.

Australia – Vietnam’s long-term partner in Mekong Delta: Ambassador

- Australia has been a long-term partner of Vietnam in the Mekong Delta , affirmed Australian Ambassador Robyn Mudie during a recent interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).The ambassador expressed her delight to be back to the Mekong Delta, following her visit in December 2020, saying it’s a wonderful opportunity for her to reconnect with the people and the environment in the region, and to see some of the chances that have been taking place in the past year.She noted that Australia has invested 650 million AUD in projects in the region since 2000 like Cao Lanh and My Thuan bridges, along with others in agriculture and climate change adaptation.“At the moment, we are focusing on projects which look at maintaining productivity and environmental resilience because we know that this is vital to the Mekong Delta’s ability to adapt to a changing climate, and to preserve food security, sustainability and development in the future,” the diplomat said.She added that Australia has a number of interesting projects underway, including one connecting aquaculture farmers to enhance productivity and profitability, helping them maximise productivity.Another is in the Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap province, she said, further explaining that it is informed by the AI and high technology solutions, which are geared to supporting sustainable environmental management in the park.The ambassador also highlighted the Mekong-Australia Partnership, worth 232 million AUD over four years across all Mekong countries, and support through the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), which has been focusing on the Mekong Delta for almost 30 years, and collectively invested 23 million AUD in 20 collaboration projects.

Agriculture, farmers, rural areas should be focus of Tra Vinh’s development: NA leader

(Photo: VNA)– Tra Vinh should take agriculture as a development focus as agricultural workers and rural residents still account for the majority of the local population, said National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.Hue made the suggestion at a meeting with the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee on April 29 as part of his working visit to the Mekong Delta province.Tra Vinh needs to change the mindset from agricultural production to agriculural economy, develop agriculture in association with industry and services, and attach importance to collective and cooperative economy to reduce input costs and increase output value, thus improving people's living standards, he noted.The province is home to three biological zones - saltwater, brackish water, and freshwater, which are also natural resources, so it needs to adapt to climate change, according to the top legislator.The NA leader highlighted the province’s efforts to put important transport links, the Duyen Hai 2 thermal power plant, and five wind power projects into operation. He also spoke highly of its performance in caring for people’s health, ensuring social security, promoting the Party and political, and improving the business climate.At the working session, Hue requested efforts to combine economic growth with cultural and social development, voicing his support for Tra Vinh’s goal of becoming a renewable energy centre of the Mekong Delta and an example for economic zones in the region.The chairman also called for the continued implementation of policies aimed to assist revolutionary stalwarts, people with disadvantages, and ethnic minority and religious communities.He asked Tra Vinh to continue supporting elected agencies, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and socio-political organisations based on people’s need to build and rectify the Party and political system.At the meeting, local officials reported that having been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change last year, Tra Vinh’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) contracted 3.92 percent, while industrial production value fell 9.7 percent year on year. However, it has started to recover in the first quarter of 2022.Also on April 29, the NA leader visited the province’s General Hospital, along with a Heroic Vietnamese Mother and a veteran revolutionary in Tra Vinh city./.

Vietnam always gives highest priority to relations with Laos: Party chief

Vietnam asks for EU’s stronger support in cyber security protection

An overview of the meeting (Photo: qdnd.com.vn)– Minister of Public Security General To Lam met with Gunnar Wiegand , Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service ( EEAS ), in Hanoi on April 28, asking for further support from the EU in cyber security protection.Lam highlighted the strong growth of the EU-Vietnam partnership across all fields, especially since the two sides set up their bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership in 2016 and put the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) into use last August.The deal has turned Vietnam into the EU’s leading trade partner among the ASEAN countries and one of the Asian countries that the EU has shared partnership with in all fields, including security and law enforcement, he noted.The minister highlighted that in the field of cyber security, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the EU have enjoyed close collaboration with the regular organisation of conferences, training, online meetings, consultations and the exchange of expertise.He underlined that the ministry recognises and highly values the support and positive cooperation, dialogue and experience sharing from the EU in building and implementing laws related to cyber security.Lam said that during the building of the Law on Cyber Security and related decrees, Vietnam has received consultations and experience sharing from the EU in protection of personal data, he added.The official proposed that in the time to come, the EU will continue to share its experience with Vietnam in ensuring cyber security for major information infrastructure works as well as managing trans-border data and protecting data in important sectors, while increasing discussions and engagement in building and completing national legal framework regarding cyber security, national sovereignty in cyber space and cyber war, as well as introducing and transferring technologies, equipment, supporting tools for cyber security protection, and cyber and high-tech criminal prevention and combat.Regarding the EU-initiated Enhancing Security Cooperation in and with Asia (ESIWA) programme, Lam underlined that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security highly values the outcomes of the EU-funded projects within the framework of the programme in the 2014-2020 period, adding the projects have made positive contributions to the economic development in Vietnam, making the Vietnam-EU comparative partnership deeper and more practical.He suggested that the EU increase cooperation with Vietnam within the ESIWA Programme, especially in cyber security, maritime security, anti-terrorism and crisis management, and proposed the organisation of detail discussions to sketch out specific activities to meet the demands of all sides.For his part, Wiegand said that the growing ties between the EU and Vietnam has not limited in economy, trade and investment but expanded to strategic areas of politics, diplomacy and security.The official affirmed that he will continue to work hard to reinforce and further lift up the EU-Vietnam partnership./.
