The U.S. on Monday made clear it does not intend to comply with a U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement dispute settlement panel ruling that faulted its application of the deal’s automotive rules of origin, warning that doing so would increase non-North American content in vehicles by up to 20 percent. The U.S. contends that core auto parts found to meet USMCA content requirement despite containing foreign content should not be counted as originating entirely in North America under the deal’s overall regional value...

TotalEnergies to exit gas discoveries offshore South Africa to focus on Namibian exploration(Bloomberg) – TotalEnergies SE plans to exit its discoveries of gas-condensate offshore South Africa to prioritize exploration in other areas closer to Namibia, according to people familiar with the matter. The company will concentrate instead on exploring the Orange basin, located further north on the Atlantic coast of South Africa near promising offshore oil discoveries in Namibian waters, the people said. An exit from the discoveries would be a blow to South Africa, which lacks domestic sources of oil and gas. CNR International (South Africa) Ltd. has given notice that it will withdraw from its 20% interest in the discoveries, according to the statement. South Africa has struggled to bring oil and gas developments onstream in a timely manner amid legislative uncertainty.

According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, it should disperse northward and westward for another day or two. Locations nearest the Gulf Coast will be most affected, but some dust could reach Northeast Texas.

The Tutsi-led rebels, known as M23, took control of Kanyabayonga, a strategic town in the east of the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo, where different armed groups operate. Kanyabayonga has been at the heart of clashes between DRC forces and the M23, since the latter took up arms in 2021. The M23 fighters were advancing towards the town of Kirumba, in North Kivu province, a key commercial center with more than 120,000 residents. The country’s mineral wealth, estimated at $25 trillion, has yet to be tapped into due to corruption and instability in the country’s east, where different rebellions are ongoing, notably that led by the M23 movement. The DRC, the UN and Western countries accuse Rwanda of supporting rebel groups, including M23, in a bid to control the region’s vast mineral resources, an allegation Kigali denies.

UNICEF: Central African Republic’s children are world’s most deprived Published on:Read < 1 minuteThe Central African Republic’s three million children are the world’s most deprived, with widespread malnutrition, inadequate healthcare access, and instability putting the country at high risk of a humanitarian crisis, UNICEF said on Tuesday. Half of the country’s children do not have access to health services, and almost 40 percent suffer from chronic malnutrition, the U.N. Children’s Agency said. With global attention focused on the war in Gaza and other conflicts, the plight of the African nation’s children has become “painfully invisible”, Meritxell Relano Arana, UNICEF representative in the Central African Republic, told reporters in Geneva. “The three million girls and boys of the Central Africa Republic face the highest registered level of overlapping and interconnected crises and deprivation in the world,” she said. The Central African Republic is now ranked as the country most at risk for sliding into a humanitarian crisis, she added.
