The Proteas piled up 194-4 off their 20 overs after being put into bat before restricting the USA to 176-6 as the Super Eights stage got underway at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. However, the USA, who stunned former champions Pakistan in the first round, were close to another upset when Andries Gous (80 not out) and Harmeet Singh (38) put on 91 for the sixth wicket. Opening batsman De Kock, his country’s leading run-maker in the format, reached his 15th T20 international fifty off 26 balls. The USA limped to 73-4 off the first 10 overs before opener Gous and Harmeet suddenly reignited their team’s hopes. Gous smashed leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for three sixes in the 18th over to leave his team needing 28 off 12 balls.

Intra-African trade up 7.2% in 2023, report finds
Public Management(Ecofin Agency) - Southern Africa remains the main driver of intra-African trade, accounting for 41.4% of all trade between the continent's countries over the past year. Intra-African trade increased by 7.2% in 2023, reaching $192 billion, according to a report released by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The report, titled "African Trade Report 2024: Climate Implications of the AfCFTA Implementation," highlighted that intra-regional trade accounted for 15% of Africa's total trade last year, up from 13.6% in 2022. Oil, which makes up over 36% of Africa's total exports, saw price volatility negatively affecting the continent's trade performance. For instance, Nigeria experienced a 19.08% drop in its total trade with the rest of the world in 2023.

The Proteas continued their unbeaten run with their fifth consecutive win in the World Cup and the latest win will further boost their maiden title bid. Jihadis from Africa's Sahel have crossed into Nigeria's North, a new report says.
Jihadi fighters who had long operated in Africa's volatile Sahel region have settled in northwestern Nigeria after crossing from neighbouring Benin, a new report said Wednesday, the latest trend in the militants' movements to wealthier West African coastal nations. Uncertain Motives of Sahel ExtremistsThe Clingendael report said that it's unclear the motive of the Sahel extremists in the park or what their relationship with other armed groups there would be. Security analysts say it offers opportunities for logistics and more influence amid a booming illegal trade across the porous border. Across many villages in Nigeria's northwest, banditry — not jihadi fighters — remains the major security threat, Barnett said. The bandits have on one or two occasions in the past collaborated with jihadi fighters as two separate groups in carrying out attacks.

Nigeria: Pre-capping measures show electricity exports on the up
Nigeria exported ₦58.65 billion (around $39m) worth of electricity to its neighbours in West Africa in the first quarter of 2024. The total value of exported electricity from Nigeria in 2022 was $50.98m and its exports of “energy goods” in Q4 2023 stood at ₦31.04 billion (around $20.5m).
