ADNOC issues early EPC award for Ruwais LNG project
ADNOC has issued a limited notice to proceed (LNTP) for early EPC activities to a joint venture, led by Technip Energies, with JGC Corp. and National Petroleum Construction Company PJSC for its low-carbon LNG project in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi. With the final investment decision (FID) expected in 2024, the Ruwais LNG project is set to be the first LNG export facility in the Middle East and North Africa region to run on clean power, making it one of the lowest-carbon intensity LNG plants in the world. Fatema Al Nuaimi, Executive Vice President, Downstream Business Management at ADNOC, said: “The Ruwais LNG project will reinforce ADNOC’s position as a reliable global natural gas supplier, underscoring its pivotal role and contribution to global energy security. The project is set to significantly contribute to the Al Dhafra region’s economy by boosting the local industrial ecosystem, attracting further investments and creating a vital energy trade gateway in Al Ruwais Industrial City.”Once completed, the project will consist of two 4.8 million tpy LNG liquefaction trains with a total capacity of 9.6 million tpy, and is set to more than double ADNOC’s LNG production capacity, from 6mmtpa to around 15 million tpy.

Norway’s Ambitious Plan to Store Carbon Dioxide in the North Sea
Norway has big plans to pump waste carbon from oil and gas operations and heavy industry under the seabed of the North Sea to be stored safely underground. Others believe that carbon capture and storage (CCS) is merely a band-aid on a bullet wound and that countries should be fixing their carbon problem at the source rather than mitigating the effects of fossil fuel production. Norway aims to show the world that CCS technology can be used to store carbon safely underground through its Longship project. They point to Norway’s previous CCS projects, Sleipner and Snøhvit, which both experienced challenges in getting off the ground. The government acknowledged that ambitious CCS projects, such as this, are extremely expensive, particularly as Longship is “the first of its kind”.

The military event was designed to strictly inspect the actual combat capabilities of tank crews and make them familiar with combat action methods on different tactical missions, KCNA reported. “Swiftly weaving their way through various worst combat circumstances, heavy tanks hit targets at once with powerful strikes and broke through strong defense lines with high maneuverability,” the report said.

Rassie Erasmus to receive an honorary doctorate from the North-West University
Rugby World Cup-winning coach and South African director of rugby, Johan 'Rassie' Erasmus, is to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the North-West University (NWU). The NWU Council approved the decision during their ordinary meeting on Thursday, 16 November 2023. Jupiter scoping study shows strong case for North America-based plant
For the HPMSM project, Jupiter is considering a plant in North America with a proposed capacity of between 80 000 t/y and 120 000 t/y, balancing operational as well as demand and supply risk and production efficiency. The scoping study outlines an initial capacity of 50 000 t/y for the first three years, increasing to 100 000 t/y from 2030. The capital cost for the 100 000 t/y plant is estimated at $430-million, in line with other advanced projects in the sector. As such, the company believes it is favourably positioned as a credible and low-risk counterparty for major offtake partners in the HPMSM project. As the EV battery industry developed, Jupiter said, alternative locations may be considered if deemed more attractive from a business case perspective.

Startups from Kenya and Nigeria are among the eight ventures selected for the sixth edition of the CV Labs accelerator, securing up to US$135,000 in capital, access to other capital avenues, one-on-one mentorship, and customised growth hacks. The sixth batch of its accelerator has now been selected, with the eight ventures working across traditional industries and web3 infrastructure. Montage Gold raises $26 million for Koné project in Africa
“We look forward to progressing our strategy of building a premier multi-asset African gold producer, with our Koné project at the forefront.”The nearest major centre to the Koné project is Séguéla 80 km to the south. The project has total probable reserves of 11.3 million oxide tonnes grading 0.63 g/t gold, 7.9 million transition tonnes at 0.63 g/t gold, and 155.1 million fresh tonnes at 0.73 g/t gold. Including the probable reserves, the Koné deposit has an indicated resource, using a cut-off of 0.20 g/t gold, of 229 million tonnes grading 0.59 g/t gold and containing 4.4 million ounces. There is also an inferred resource for Koné of 25 million tonnes grading 0.5 g/t and containing 400,000 oz. The processing plant will have an annual throughput of 11 million tonnes and feature two parallel high-pressure grinding rolls followed by ball mills.

Morocco to sign first green hydrogen contracts in Q4 – The North Africa Post
Morocco, which has released an offer to investors, expects to sign the first preliminary contracts to produce green hydrogen in the country in the fourth quarter this year. Some 100 investors have expressed interest in Morocco’s green hydrogen potential, said Mohcen Jazouli, minister in charge of investment in an interview with Medias24. “Investments would cost tens of billions of dollars,” said Jazouli, adding that a feasibility study could cost the investor up to 50 million dollars. Morocco seeks value and jobs, he said, noting the potential of Morocco’s hydrogen offer to bolster electricity production in the country. Through its offer, unveiled three days ago, Morocco seeks integrated projects of scale, he said.

Harbour finds gas in North Sea Sleipner area
Offshore staffOSLO, Norway — Harbour Energy has confirmed gas with its first well on a previously discovered accumulation in the Norwegian North Sea. Well 15/9-25, drilled by the jackup Noble Integrator northeast of the Sleipner area, encountered a 10-m gas column in a 118-m thick Ty Formation sandstone reservoir, according to the Norwegian Energy Directorate (NOD). Gas was first proven in wells 16/7-2 and 16/7-10, drilled in 1982 and 2011. The NOD estimates the overall recoverable gas volume in the range 1 MMcmoe to 3 MMcmoe. Harbour and partners Sval Energi and Aker BP will assess the potential for connecting the discovery to infrastructure in the area.

Methane emissions from the energy sector remain high
After an uptick in 2023, methane emissions originating from fossil fuels appear poised to enter a downward trajectory. The IEA’s latest Global Methane Tracker reports that fossil fuel activities contributed nearly 120 million tonnes of methane emissions in 2023, showing a slight increase from the previous year. First comprehensive assessment since COP28 concludedDespite advancements, global methane emissions remain alarmingly high, jeopardising efforts to limit global warming to 1.5°C. The IEA emphasises the urgency of achieving a 75% reduction in fossil fuel-related methane emissions by 2030 to mitigate climate risks effectively. AfDB warns of linking African loan payment to critical resources – The North Africa Post
Head of the African Development Bank called for an end to loans in exchange for oil or critical minerals, which helped countries like China control vast resources in the continent. In an interview with the Associated press, AFDB chief Akinwumi Adesina explained how such loans lead to undervaluing natural resources of African countries and further erode financial stability prospects in these countries. “If you have minerals or oil under the ground, how do you come up with a price for a long-term contract? Linking resources from critical minerals- notably those used in smartphones and EV batteries for example- to loans, was a method used by lenders to secure loan payment. A China-Congo loan was linked to cobalt helping Beijing secure a critical mineral for EV batteries and energy transition.

Partnerships urged to bolster content industry in Asia
People visit the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market in Hong Kong on Tuesday. "We cooperate with everybody else in the world," Wilfred Wong Yingwai, chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, told the Asia Content Business Summit. Wong said this will allow productions to have Hong Kong funding and participation, and to be produced anywhere in the world. Through this, Hong Kong can open the door to markets all over the world by cooperating with different countries in Asia, he added.
