Sahara: Prague Supports Morocco’s Autonomy Plan – The North Africa Post
The government of the Czech Republic has voiced support to the Autonomy plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty, describing the plan as “serious and credible” and offering a “good basis” for reaching a mutually acceptable solution to the Sahara regional conflict. The supportive stand comes in the Joint Declaration signed on Thursday in Prague by Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita and Czech peer Jan Lipavský. The two ministers also reaffirmed full support to the efforts engaged by UN Sahara Envoy Staffan de Mistura to advance the UN-led political process based on the UN Security Council resolutions. In their joint statement, the two countries’ top diplomats stressed the importance of strengthening further partnership, dialogue and bilateral cooperation in all fields. They hailed in this regard the growth in trading between the two countries and the investments made by Czech companies in the North African Kingdom.

Global Lead Exposure Contributes to CVD Mortality, Loss of IQ Points
“ Our estimated magnitude of global health effects and costs of lead exposure lends urgency to reducing population exposure to lead. An estimated 5,545,000 (95% CI, 2,305,000-8,271,000) adults aged 25 and older died in 2019 due to CVD related to lead exposure. Approximately 90.2% of these adult deaths from CVD due to lead exposure occurred in low-to-middle income countries. Global cost of lead exposure totaled around $6 trillion US dollars in 2019, roughly equivalent to 6.9% of the global GDP. “Our estimated magnitude of global health effects and costs of lead exposure lends urgency to reducing population exposure to lead,” the researchers wrote.

Africa holds special place in India’s superpower ambitions – The North Africa Post
Diplomatic relations between India and Africa have expanded rapidly since the early 2000s but, with India aspiring to become the 21st century’s next superpower, the relationship between both sides will be driven by business links, trade and the joint efforts to reshape the international institutions. At the recent G20 summit in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi began proceedings with an announcement that reveals the importance that his government is placing on relationships with Africa. To that end, since the first India-Africa Forum Summit in 2008, efforts at building diplomatic profile and interactions have become increasingly high-level over the last 15 years. Since the symbolically important high-level India-Africa Forum Summit in 2015, Modi has been increasingly vocal about the importance of Africa to India’s foreign policy. “India is the fifth superpower in the world, so there is enough room for India in Africa,” Assoumani said at the recent G20 summit in New Delhi.

Egyptian ed-tech startup OBM Education raises 6-figure funding to speed Saudi expansion
Egyptian ed-tech startup OBM Education has announced a six-figure funding round to enhance its footprint in Saudi Arabia. Founded in 2020 by Omar El-Barbary and Ezz El-Din Farag, OBM helps pre-university students choose their college majors and provides them with access to career advice and training programmes. OBM Education has now secured a six-figure investment from Value Maker Studio (VMS) to speed its expansion across Saudi Arabia. With VMS, we’re solidifying our resolve to enrich the educational journey of every student,” said El-Barbary. OBM’s latest funding comes after it raised a six-figure US dollar round of funding from EdVentures back in August 2022.

Dubai ranked 23rd on world's top cities index
Dubai has retained its top spot in the Middle East and North Africa region in terms of global engagement, after ranking 23rd out of 156 cities in this year's Global Cities Index. The study also ranked Abu Dhabi among the top 30 cities globally in terms of outlook. Abu Dhabi was ranked 27th globally on Kearney’s Global Cities Outlook, which assesses how the 156 cities are creating conditions for their future status as global centres. San Francisco was ranked first in the Global Cities Outlook index, followed by Copenhagen, London, Luxembourg and Paris. “In this shifting global landscape of distributed opportunity, top-tier global cities cannot take their positions for granted,” said Brenna Buckstaff, manager at Kearney.

The film sets images of the Shimoni caves alongside historical photographs, stories, and footage showing artifacts that remain in them. “The Louisiana has given us the opportunity to actually sit back and look at, where is this Anthropocene Museum?” Mutegi said. For Anthropocene Museum 10.0, they will premiere their first physical manifestation in Kenya, a project they’re now beginning to design.

Japan backs Benin’s counterterrorism efforts with equipment worth $2.7m – The North Africa Post
Japan will provide Benin with rolling stock worth $2.7 million to contribute to the fight against terrorism in the north of the West African country. The assistance was the subject of an agreement signed by Ichijo Motonbu, the interim Chargé d’Affaires at the Japanese embassy in Benin, and Romuald Wadagni, Benin’s Finance and Economy Minister in capital Cotonou. Benin suffered its first terror attack in 2019 after two French citizens were kidnapped from Benin’s Pendjari National Park and their local guide murdered. The State blamed armed men and terrorists from neighboring Burkina Faso for the attacks. Authorities until September this year claimed 40 civilians and 20 soldiers have been killed over the past three years.

Pony.ai announces large investment from NEOM

Pony.ai and NEOM will develop, manufacture and deliver autonomous driving services, advanced vehicles and smart vehicle infrastructure in NEOM and key markets in the Middle East and North Africa region. NEOM is an ideal strategic industrial location for the development of Pony.ai's autonomous vehicle technology within the region, the company said. Pony.ai's autonomous driving technology is already available today, and we are excited to be able to utilize it in NEOM in the near future," Majid Mufti, CEO of the NEOM Investment Fund.

Africa’s cloud market is small but growing fast, and everyone wants a slice
But like its other big tech rivals, Microsoft and Oracle, the group’s heart is in Africa’s fast-growing cloud services market. Sales of cloud services are slowing down in North America the world’s biggest cloud market. Amazon’s cloud computing unit has been particularly affected and is losing market share to Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure among others. Elastic cloud computing is the technology at the heart of cloud computing. Unlike more mature markets where cloud services like AWS face growing competition, slowing investment into technology startups will not significantly affect the growth of cloud computing services in Africa.
