A public transport company in Kenya that has been around for almost 100 years has taken delivery of its first e-bus. This latest development is another step towards Kenya’s e-mobility ambition of having all of its buses electrified by 2027. Kenya Bus Management, operating in the public transport space since 1928, said it is expecting to add at least 25 more e-buses to its fleet. “Today marks a historic moment as we proudly announce the official handover of the first e-bus to join the Kenya Bus Management fleet,” said BasiGo. BasiGo intends to deliver 1,000 locally assembled electric buses for Kenya over the next three years.

Police in South Africa have arrested four individuals, including two Mexican nationals, after discovering a multimillion-dollar drug manufacturing lab on a farm in the country's north, CNN reported. The South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, raided the property in Groblersdal following reports of suspicious activity, according to a SAPS statement. Upon searching four structures on the farm, police discovered large quantities of chemicals used in the production of illicit drugs, such as acetone and crystal meth, with an estimated street value of 2 billion South African rand ($109.4 million). The four suspects arrested on Friday include the farm owner and two Mexican nationals. It is unclear whether the seized drugs were meant for the South African market or export.

Côte d’Ivoire Joined the United Nations Water Convention, a treaty that aims to improve joint water management across borders. The West African country, which faces increasing is the 53rd party to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, known as the 1992 UN Water Convention. The country is expected to see demand on water increase by its 30 million population, which grows at a rate of 2.5%. In Côte d’Ivoire, water resources are also threatened by urbanization, climate change impacts including drought and flooding, while water quality is deteriorating due to pollution from agricultural, industrial waste, illegal gold panning, and untreated wastewater. Chad, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Togo and Cameroon became the first African nations to accede to the Treaty, before being joined in 2023 by Nigeria, Namibia and the Gambia.
