RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — A 13-year-old Palestinian boy was shot and killed by Israeli fire during clashes in the occupied West Bank on Friday, Palestinian health officials said. The teen, identified as Mohammad Daadas, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the stomach during clashes with Israeli forces near the northern West Bank village of Deir al-Hatab, said the health officials’ statement. Daadas was taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead. In a statement issued later Friday, the army said dozens of Palestinians near Deir al-Hatab began hurling rocks at Israeli troops who responded with live fire. According to Wafa, the Palestinian news agency, Daadas was from the Askar refugee camp on the outskirts of the northern city of Nablus.

CAIRO – 5 November 2021: Egypt received its second shipment of the American-made Moderna vaccine, comprising more than 3.5 million doses on Friday. The doses, delivered less than a week from the first Moderna shipment, arrived at the Cairo International Airport through the COVAX initiative and in cooperation with the Vaccine Alliance (Gavi). The Moderna vaccine, approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization, is administered as two doses, 21 days apart. Egypt received late in October its first shipment of the Moderna vaccine comprising 784,280 doses. The country has received all types of vaccines worldwide, the latest of which was Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson.

The House of Representatives approved a draft law submitted by the cabinet regarding the amendment of some provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Law promulgated by Law #94 of 2015. The final approval was postponed for another session. The amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Law came days after President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced the cancellation of the state of emergency in Egypt. Article 53 was amended with a text implementing decisions issued to fight against terrorism in some areas. During the discussions, the MPs confirmed that the draft law is compatible with the constitution as it grants the competent authorities more flexibility in implementing counter-terrorism measures and protect the homeland and its citizens.

The Egyptian Tax Authority has demanded that the owners of private tutoring centers pay income tax for the center’s activities, despite the illegality of these centers. Private tutoring centers in Egypt to teach students away from the school classroom in return for a fee in order to raise their educational level, in light of the overcrowding of schools in Egypt with students. The authority issued a warning to the owners of private lessons centers to pay income tax, so that they would not fall under the threat of tax evasion in order to achieve tax justice and include the informal economy under the authority’s tax umbrella, said the advisor to the head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, Said Fouad. The Egyptian Tax Authority called on those involved in private tutoring to go to the nearest tax office and open a tax file for this activity in no later than one month. The growth was attributed to the efforts made to modernize and mechanize the tax and customs systems, expand the tax base and striving to reduce tax evasion, and settle tax disputes.

CAIRO - 4 November 2021: Grocery delivery startup Breadfast has raised about $26 million in an initial funding round led by Vostok New Ventures and Endure Capital. Breadfast clarified in a statement that participatants in the funding round were Tinder co-founder Justin Mattin's Jam Fund, US accelerator YC Continuity, US logistics platform Flexport, UAE's Shurooq Partners, Africa-focused 4DX Ventures, and Flexport Shipping. According to the statement, the total investment of Breadfast so far amounts to about $33 million. CAIRO – 2 November 2021: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that the volume of domestic liquidity in the banking sector increased by LE 86.2 billion, to LE 5.575 trillion at the end of September 2021, compared to LE 5.489 trillion at the end of August 2021. The CBE’s monthly report revealed that the money supply recorded LE 1.330 trillion at the end of September 2021, compared to LE 1.307 trillion at the end of August, with an increase of about LE 22.9 billion. The total deposits in local currency in the banking sector other than the government recorded an increase of LE 85.7 billion, to reach LE 4.239 trillion at the end of September 2021, compared to LE 4.153 trillion at the end of August 2021. The data of the monthly bulletin issued by the Central Bank showed an increase in total deposits in local currency with banks operating in the Egyptian market, other than government deposits, to record about LE 4.239 trillion at the end of September 2021, compared to about LE 4.153 trillion at the end of August 2021, and the foreign assets of the banking sector recorded about $56.962 billion at the end of September 2021, compared to $55.366 billion at the end of August 2021. CAIRO – 2 November 2021: Egypt offered its sincere condolences, Tuesday to South Sudan over the crash of a cargo plane in the capital, Juba, killing five crew members. Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims. According to Reuters, five people died earlier Tuesday when a small cargo plane crashed shortly after take-off from Juba Airport in South Sudan, airport officials said. Authorities have started investigating the incident which involved an Antonov-26 plane operated by Optimum Aviation, a local firm, said Kur Koul, director general of the airport. The victims were all crew members of the plane, which was carrying drums of fuel to Maban county in Upper Nile State.
