CAIRO – 10 May 2022: The Egyptian Health Ministry closed a private eye hospital Tuesday after the death of a young lady who undergone an x ray dye on her eyes without allergy test in prior. An urgent investigation started into the incident, after medical negligence is believed to be the reason behind the death. Marina Salah, 27 years old, went to a private eye hospital in Cairo a few days ago as she had severe redness. Marina had not undergone an allergy test before the rays, which cause her death eventually after several attempts to rescue her. He ensured that the Ministry of Health is investigating the incident.

Egyptian Border Guard forces in the Great Sand Sea area, south of Siwa Oasis, in the west of the country, thwarted the smuggling of a large shipment of weapons, ammunition and narcotics. The military spokesperson for the Armed Forces, Gharib Abdel-Hafez, said in Monday statement that authorities seized two four-wheel drive vehicles without license plates used by terrorists for infiltration and smuggling. They also seized seven sniper rifles (FN), two Kalashnikov submachine gun, 13 automatic rifles, five Beretta rifle, RPG, 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, two 14.5 machine gun, eight automatic magazines, seven FN sniper magazines, and two RPG warheads, alongside 1,162 rounds of different ammunition, a satellite phone and one million narcotic tablets were recovered. Legal measures were taken against the smugglers. Abdel-Hafez said that the Border Guard is continuing its intensive efforts against outlaws, and imposing security control on all strategic directions of the state to secure Egypt’s borders, in conjunction with the intensification of tightening procedures and control over all the state’s border crossings and ports.

The Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat signed development financing grants with the European Union worth €138 million. The signing ceremony witnessed a €24 million grant agreement between the EU’s Integrated Rural Development program and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to support the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. A €14 million grant for the “EU Green – EU Support for Growth through Egyptian Environmental Networks” program was also signed, and will be implemented through the GIZ, to support the Ministry of Environment. This is in addition to the €3 million grant for the Community Development Program between the EU and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) for the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA). Moreover, the disbursement of the second tranche was announced to support the budget, worth €80 million in grants to support the Ministry of Health and Population.

CAIRO - 9 May 2022: The implementation of a solar cell plant in Zafarana area to produce electricity with a capacity of 50 MW is underway, according to the New and Renewable Energy Authority. The Authority stated that the plant will start its operation in the third quarter of 2022, with total investments of about LE 700 million. This came in the Authority's eleventh periodic bulletin, which included a monitoring of renewable energy activities during the third quarter of the fiscal year (2022/2021), which shows the progress of work in the fields of hydro, solar, wind, and biomass. The capacities of the projects under development witnessed a remarkable increase, reaching 3,570 megawatts, with foreign direct investments of approximately $3.5 billion, double its counterpart in 2020. Of these, 78% are for wind energy projects in the Gulf of Suez region on the Red Sea coast with high wind speeds, and 22% for energy solar.

CAIRO – 9 May 2022: Geologist Abou Al Hagag Nasr El Din, who is member of the technical committee of the Golden Triangle, called Monday for the revival of the "Imperial Marble Quarry" located western Red Sea's Safaga town in the Eastern Desert. The geologist noted that the marble extracted from such quarry was labeled "imperial" because it was used in building the columns of the Greco-Roman castles and temples. Nasr El Din said that work at the quarry persisted for 100-150 years, but later, has been neglected for centuries. He noted that large reserves of the "imperial marble" still exist in the area lying just 45 kilometers away from Safaga, which has a seaport. In 2017, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a decree turning the Golden Triangle, extending between Red Sea's Safaga and Qusair, and Qena's Qift, into an economic zone.

He stressed that those who wish to acquire more religious knowledge can attend the daily lessons, which are organized daily. He pointed out that the rest of the mosques will witness three lessons in the afternoon and three after the evening prayer, in addition to the lessons of female preachers after the noon prayer. During March, the Central Bank of Egypt used part of the foreign exchange reserves to cover the Egyptian market’s foreign exchange needs. The reserve can cover more than five months of merchandise imports, surpassing international indicators of reserves adequacy. The reserves also help when the main sources of foreign currency for Egypt (tourism, exports and investments) become impacted in times of unrest. Other sources of hard currency, such as remittances from Egyptians abroad (which have reached record levels) and Suez Canal revenues, contribute to the reserves.

CAIRO – 8 May 2022: 20 Egyptian sailors, who were held in Yemen and then released, returned home on Sunday, reported the Egyptian state-owned news agency MENA. “Once they returned to Egypt, the sailors thanked President Sisi for his efforts to solve their issue,” MENA said. Six days ago, the Egyptian authorities announced that they succeeded in releasing 20 Egyptian sailors held in Yemen, and secured their return to their homeland.
