But air pollution remains one of the country’s main environmental concerns, with at least 40% of dirty air in Pakistan produced by vehicles, the country’s climate change ministry has said. In November 2019, the government set a target to bring a half million electric motorcycles and rickshaws, along with more than 100,000 electric cars, buses and trucks, into the transportation system within five years. In view of these concerns, the additional chief secretary (Home), imposed the ban on all political gatherings and rallies in Lahore in exercise of powers under Section 144 (6). The ban on political rallies came despite the start of the Punjab Assembly election process. Earlier on Wednesday, the same day when election schedule was announced, Section 144 was imposed in Lahore, banning all kinds of public assemblies. According to a senior government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the power to impose the ban on rallies under Section 144 rested only with the district administration. He explained that Section 144 (6) under which those powers were being used, only allowed the provincial government to extend the ban, and not to impose it.

Whether — and how — rich countries should help poorer nations cope with such destruction remains an open question. Researchers at the Basque Centre for Climate Change have estimated that developing countries could suffer losses of $580 billion in 2030. At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, Pakistan’s climate change minister, Sherry Rehman, warned of “recovery traps”. California banking regulators closed the bank, which did business as Silicon Valley Bank, on Friday and appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver for later disposition of its assets. Silicon Valley Bank's failure is the largest since Washington Mutual went bust in 2008, a hallmark event that triggered a financial crisis that hobbled the economy for years. The FDIC is racing to find another bank over the weekend that is willing to merge with Silicon Valley Bank, according to people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity because the details are confidential. It's unclear if any buyer will step up to buy these assets without SVB Financial having filed for bankruptcy first.

Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday rejected allegations by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that the provincial administration was responsible for the murder of party worker Ali Bilal, saying the death was ‘accident case’ and ‘unfortunately misinterpreted’. The PTI had claimed that party worker Ali Bilal died of police violence and torture after personnel launched a crackdown on party workers and supporters protesting near PTI chief Imran Khan's Zaman Town residence. Naqvi stated that his administration was not involved in the incident and that the PTI should refrain from levelling “baseless allegations”. Naqvi categorically denied claims of instructing the Punjab police to act against PTI workers and added that the Punjab IGP would personally visit Ali Bilal’s father and the Punjab government would provide financial assistance to the victim’s heirs. Naqvi deplored former health minister and PTI leader Yasmin Rashid's press conference which targeted police and the administration despite knowing the "facts of the event".

Although mankind has been able to invent and incorporate technology of great utility to the education sector, there was no framework in place to effectively facilitate education beyond a physical classroom setting. Following COVID-19, academics and relevant education sector stakeholders recognized the potential of fulfilling the basic right of education regardless of physical circumstances. Not everyone is able to afford private education, and often public schools in developing countries lack the resources to provide a quality education to its learners.
