Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin has said salt-cured rawhides are being sold at prices set by the government. Many seasonal traders have said the significant price difference between salt-cured and unsalted animal skins this year has left them devastated. This year, tanners in the capital can purchase salt-cured cowhide at Tk 60-65 per sqft, up from last year's rate at Tk 55-60. Outside Dhaka, the price of salt-cured cowhide has been set at Tk 55-60 a sqft, compared with last year's Tk 50-55. More than a hundred people have been treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after sustaining injuries from sharp tools while slaughtering and butchering sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha. Mushtak Ahmed, the hospital’s resident surgeon, confirmed that the injured individuals came from Dhaka and surrounding areas throughout the day on Saturday, seeking emergency treatment, according to bdnews24.com. “Most of those who required medical attention were seasonal butchers,” Mushtak said. The two-storey cinema, which seats 750 people, descended into chaos when the movie suddenly stopped due to a technical fault. Audience members, enraged by the disruption, reportedly vandalised the inside of the theatre and its premises. That changed with the rise of low-quality films, dwindling attendance, and the 2002 cinema hall bombings, which accelerated the decline. But on this Eid, the release of Shakib's blockbuster Taandob brought a rare surge in demand, more than the hall could handle.
