A mild earthquake has occurred at Brahmanbaria near Bangladesh-India borders with the tremors travelling to Dhaka.According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake's magnitude was measured at 4.3 on the Richter scale at 4:52pm on Friday.Its epicentre was traced 10km deep below the surface of the earth.The USGS said the origin of the quake was 23.2km east-northeast of Nabinagar in Brahmanbaria, 16km northwest of Agartala, India, 23.4km west-northwest of Raninagar in Tripura, and 38.4km southeast of Bajitpur in Kishoreganj.Meteorologist Rubayet Kabir of the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said the earthquake's source was traced to 105km east-northeast of the capital.On Mar 28, a catastrophic magnitude 7.7 earthquake wreaked havoc in Myanmar, its tremors rattling different parts of Bangladesh as well and causing more than 3,000 deaths in Myanmar alone.�"bdnews24.com

Authorities said the suspect, Md Yasin, husband of one of the victims, was arrested in a banana orchard in an intoxicated state. Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostofa Sarwar Farooki had hinted at the name change at a press conference on March 23. Advisor Farooki said on Tuesday that Dhaka University authorities would discuss whether to keep the name or change it. At least 17 businesses have been burnt down in a fire that broke out at Munshirhat Bazar in Chandpur's Matlab South Upazila. The blaze began around 7:15am on Friday in the Baburhat-Matlab-Pennai Road area, according to Syed Morshed Hossain, deputy assistant director of the Chandpur Fire Service and Civil Defence North Station. Dock Leaseholder Kamrul Islam has filed a case against several named suspects – Antur Khan, 26, Morshed Khan, 25, Mosharaf Khan, 28, Hridoy, 25, Rony Khan, 42 – and 10-12 other unnamed ones over the hijacking. A video showing suspect Antur standing atop a trawler with a pistol in his hand has gone viral on social media. Kamrul’s son Hedayatullah said that garment workers used the trawlers to cross the river and his father runs the dock with a lease from the municipality. “Antur Khan, Morshed Khan, and several others had been demanding Tk 500,000 in extortion money from my father.
